Tell it to tutor, not to answer
I'm helping my [age]-year-old with [subject] homework. Please act as a patient tutor: ask questions and give hints one step at a time, and don't give the final answer even if they ask.
Stay nearby for the first few sessions. You'll quickly see whether it's helping your child think or doing the thinking for them.
Check two things first
- The school's rules. Schools, and even individual teachers, treat AI for homework differently. Ask rather than guess.
- The assistant's age rules. Most set a minimum age in their terms, so check before your child uses it on their own.
